The Earth Guardians, indigenous eco hip hop artists standing up for future generations- and their own generation, our generation.
The inspiration for this song came through when 12 year old indigenous eco-hip hop artist, Itzchuauhtli (Eat-Squat-Lee), took a 45-DAY vow of silence to bring urgent attention to our climate crisis. He and his brother Xiuhtezcatl (Shoe-Tes-Kal), are at the forefront of a youth activist movement called the Earth Guardians.
Silence Speak means to me...let all that is so silenced in our current society BE HEARD. The voices of the CHILDREN whose very existence is at stake due to rapid climate change, the voices of the BEAUTIFUL SPECIES who are going extinct, the voices of our inner fears, grief, love, pain and RAGE at the crisis our world is facing, and the collective silence around the severity of the situation.
Silence Speak is a cathartic song for me to write and to sing. There is a fire inside of my throat that sings and screams through this song. This fire burns with the message, WAKE UP AND RESPECT LIFE- NOW!
